Jammu: Pakistani Army violated ceasefire by resorting to mortar shelling on ahead posts and villages alongside the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officers stated on Monday.

A couple of Army personnel, a part of an ambush occasion, had been injured when two mortar shells exploded close to them throughout the shelling on Sunday evening, the officers stated.

“Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing of small arms and intense shelling with mortars in Balakote area of Mendhar sector around 2230 hours on Sunday. Indian army retaliated befittingly,” a defence spokesperson stated in an announcement.

Officials stated a military column was on ambush responsibility close to the LoC when two mortar shells exploded close to them, inflicting accidents to a “few personnel”.

“The injured were immediately evacuated to military hospital and their condition is stated to be stable,” they stated.
