The Congress on Friday declared its candidates for the upcoming meeting bypolls in Kerala.

The byelection in Kerala can be held on 5 seats –Vattiyoorkavu, Konni, Alroor, Ernakulam and Manjeswaram — on October 21.

The Congress is contesting on 4 seats whereas its second largest ally — the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) — is contesting on one seat.

On Friday, the Congress declared TJ Vinod as its candidate for the upcoming by-elections to Kerala Legislative Assembly from Ernakulam, Shanimol Usman from Alroor, P Mohanraj from Konni and Okay Mohan Kumar from Vattiyoorkavu.

“The Congress president Sonia Gandhi has approved the proposal for the candidature of the following persons as party candidates to contest for the ensuing bye-elections to the Legislative Assembly of Kerala,” an announcement issued by All India Congress Committee (AICC) learn.

Earlier, having misplaced its conventional stronghold of Pala in Kerala within the bypoll this week, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) appeared nervous concerning the remaining 5 Assembly bypolls within the state.
