Kolkata: Taking a jibe at former TMC heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari for switching over to the BJP, party chief Madan Mitra, on Saturday, mentioned that West Bengal’s ruling party is “free from virus now”.

Mitra, former West Bengal minister, slammed Adhikari for saying that Trinamool Congress did nothing for the final ten years.

“I’m told that Suvendu said Trinamool Congress (TMC) did nothing for the last 10 years. If TMC had done nothing is last 10 years why were you silent? It’s unfortunate. Today there will be a gala evening for TMC workers as we’re free from virus now,” Mitra was quoted as saying by ANI.

Adhikari, others joined BJP

Adhikari, a former shut aide of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, joined the BJP earlier as we speak together with TMC MP Sunil Mondal, 9 sitting MLAs, together with 5 from the state’s ruling party at Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s rally in Midnapore.

Besides Adhikari, other TMC MLAs who modified sides and joined the BJP embody – Banasri Maity, Silbhdrada Dutta, Biswajit Kundu, Sukra Munda and Saikat Panja.

Adhikari, an influential chief of West Bengal with a mass base, give up the party on Thursday after giving up his cupboard portfolios within the state authorities and resigning as an MLA.

After becoming a member of the BJP, he vowed to oust the Mamata Banerjee regime within the 2021 Assembly elections and exuded confidence that the saffron party will type the subsequent authorities within the state.

“I am being called a traitor by those who themselves (TMC) are traitors. Had the BJP not been there, TMC would have never come into existence. In the next assembly polls, BJP will win Bengal and TMC will be defeated,” he mentioned at Shah’s Midnapore rally.
