She acts like “a big lump of plasticine”, yet Kalamata the movie star snake could also be one of many largest celebrities on the Gold Coast.
The three.three-metre olive python has appeared on TV and in movies, together with Nim’s Island, Young Rock, Sea Patrol and Animal Planet.
But at roughly 37 years previous, and after producing a whole bunch of offspring, the silver display screen veteran might be forgiven if she merely wished to slither off into retirement.
“If she was human she’d probably have that walking frame going on,” proprietor and snake catcher Tony Harrison stated.
But she’s not carried out with stardom just yet.
One of her largest claims to fame is being the mannequin for Nagini — Voldemort’s pet within the Harry Potter movies.

“They put hundreds of electrodes down her side and got her to crawl along the ground,” Mr Harrison stated.
“They put that into their computer and got the precise movements of how a snake works.”
While the ensuing CGI snake was fairly evil, Mr Harrison stated Kalamata herself was “just like a big puppy dog”.
Secret to success

But underneath Mr Harrison’s care, she recovered nicely and has since bred on 10 events, delivering about 29 offspring every time.
Kalamata is now one of 24 olive pythons that Mr Harrison owns.
“Some of them will rip your arm off, some are larger and pleasant however they wriggle round lots,” he stated.

“They all have completely different personalities. [Kalamata’s] just probably the most forgiving, placid snake.”
In the reptile world, the typical lifespan of an olive python is between 20 and 30 years, so at 37, Kalamata is proof that her lazy, peaceable strategy to life has benefit.
And whereas she’s nonetheless breeding, Mr Harrison stated she was exhibiting indicators of ageing and her egg clutches have been getting smaller.
“She’s beginning to get skinny [but] nonetheless eats and does what’s anticipated,” he stated.
